Answer
I am very aware of the popularity and importance of our forest parks to local people and visitors. Our forests are a fantastic natural resource and make a major contribution to tourism and recreation in addition to many health and well-being benefits. Tollymore Forest Park is one of our premier sites attracting approximately 150,000 annual visits.
Storm Francis caused severe flooding in the Newcastle area on 25 August and the recreation infrastructure in Tollymore Forest Park was also significantly impacted by the storm. Forest Service has already commenced the repair work and I can confirm that funding has been allocated from within existing budgets to complete the repair works.
In the meantime, safety measures including trail diversions and signage are in place to ensure visitors are able to continue to visit the Forest Park safely as repair works are ongoing.
