Answer

The Investment Delivery Plan for Roads (IDP) was published in March 2008, to outline the utilisation of road infrastructure funding as envisaged in the 2008 – 18 Investment Strategy for Northern Ireland (ISNI).

Future strategic road improvements will be identified through the new Regional Strategic Transport Network Transport Plan (RSTNTP), as part of a new suite of Transport Plans being developed by my Department.

The RSTNTP will not only consider the strategic road network, but will also cover public transport and the proposed greenway network as part of the wider integrated transport network.

I am also bringing forward transport plans including the Belfast Metropolitan Transport Plan and the North West Transport Plan. All of these Transport Plans will include proposals for active travel projects, and will be developed in conjunction with local councils and their Local Development Plan process.

I intend to publish the draft RSTNTP for public consultation in late 2021 with a view to issuing the finalised Plan in spring 2022. The public consultation on the RSTNTP will provide an opportunity for representations to be made on the strategic networks.
