Answer
I was pleased as the Minister for Infrastructure to sign The Glasgow Declaration on Zero Emission Cars and Vans on behalf of the Northern Ireland Executive to reinforce our commitment to the decarbonisation of transport across these islands. This is a key declaration on tackling emissions from vehicles and it makes clear our commitment towards decarbonising our transport network.
This same commitment applies to my Department and plans are being developed to move to an entirely zero-emissions fleet of vehicles. Initial work has started on our smaller vans and trials of fully electric vans are ongoing. Consideration is also being given to the new technologies that could be used to power the larger items of plant, and in particular our specialist equipment such as gritters.
