Answer

The Driver and Vehicle Agency’s current arrangements for vehicle testing are based on Generic Risk Assessments of the respective processes being conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic. These Assessments are regularly reviewed and amended if necessary to ensure that the health, safety and welfare of staff and customers is maintained so far as is reasonably practicable.

To comply with public health guidance in relation to social distancing, the DVA has had to take steps to reduce the number of people in its test halls. Reception areas are available for shelter and the public toilets are open, however, during busy periods the maximum number of customers that can be safely accommodated can be reached, meaning some customers may need to remain outside. For this reason customers are advised in their reminder notice and booking appointment confirmation, to come prepared for the weather as they may need to remain outside for the duration of the test.

The DVA will continue to monitor PHA advice and guidance over the coming weeks with a view to resuming its normal MOT service with customers back in the test hall during the testing process. Any changes to its processes will be communicated to customers through NI Direct and social media channels.
