Answer

Road safety is a matter of significant importance and I, as Minister for Infrastructure, am committed to working proactively to make our roads safer and to address the needs of all road users, particularly vulnerable road user groups, including motorcyclists.

There are a number of potential road safety interventions that were raised with the Department during the development of a new Road Safety Strategy, including an enhanced rider training scheme for motorcyclists. However, given the budget pressures faced by my Department for essential services, I am not in a position to commit any funding.

My officials will continue to engage with all road user representative bodies as we continue our important work on road safety and on the delivery of a new Road Safety Strategy to 2030.
