Answer
At 1 February 2021, my Department had a total of 3,094 staff in post (2,970 Departmental staff and 124 agency workers).
It is worth noting that not all staff work full-time – the Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) in workforce planning terms equates to a total of 2,955.9 (2839.1 Departmental staff and 116.8 agency workers).
The table below provides a breakdown by business area, led at Deputy Secretary level and for the Department’s only Agency, the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA):
| Business Area | Staff in Post (Departmental) | FTE (Departmental) | Staff in Post (Agency) | FTE (Agency) |
| Resources, Governance & EU | 283 | 266.6 | 2 | 2 |
| Roads and Rivers | 1,786 | 1,717.9 | 47 | 45.2 |
| Planning, Safety & Transport Policy (excluding DVA) | 159 | 147.1 | 1 | 0.8 |
| DVA | 742 | 707.5 | 74 | 68.8 |
| Total: | 2970 | 2839.10 | 124 | 116.80 |
