Answer

All DAERA managed forest and country parks remain open and accessible to the public and site staff monitor public pressure dynamically and have considerable experience managing busy periods. As per established processes, particular sites may be closed to vehicular access temporarily on busy days, when approaching parking capacity, this is in order to control traffic congestion, visitor numbers and ensure continued access remains available for emergency services. Enhanced cleaning regimes and social distancing measures remain in place at all public toilet facilities and public safety signage is also in place in respect of ongoing Covid-19 requirements. Where necessary staff will continue to liaise with the relevant authorities including the PSNI.

Specifically in relation to Crawfordsburn Country Park where there has been a particular issue with gatherings in periods of good weather, my officials have already met with the PSNI and will also be attending the established multi agency Anti-Social Behaviour Group meeting which includes representatives from the PSNI, Ards and North Down Borough Council, Translink and Local Residents Association.
