Answer
‘Making Belfast an Active City – Belfast Cycling Network 2021’ which I published on 4th June 2021 sets out my ambition to develop high quality safe space for cycling and routes that will significantly increase the number of people cycling. The document includes the 22 good design principles (set out in LTN 1/20) that should guide the design of the 180 km of cycle routes set out in the network.
The precise details of the infrastructure to be developed will be provided as each individual scheme is designed so it is not possible to provide the detail requested at this stage. However, I can assure the member that the emphasis will be on safe space for cycling including on-road infrastructure, physically separated from motor traffic (such as Middlepath Street) and traffic-free routes (such as the Comber Greenway).
