Financial records are not retained by my Department prior to 2009-10. However I can provide you with expenditure on Capital Structural Maintenance covering the financial years from 2009-10 to 2020-21, and the forecast expenditure for 2021-22 as set out in the table below:
| Financial Year | £’millions |
| 2009-10 | 63 |
| 2010-11 | 61 |
| 2011-12 | 88 |
| 2012-13 | 84 |
| 2013-14 | 106 |
| 2014-15 | 80 |
| 2015-16 | 41 |
| 2016-17 | 76 |
| 2017-18 | 54 |
| 2018-19 | 92 |
| 2019-20 | 93 |
| 2020-21 | 83 |
| 2021-22 (forecast) | 85 |
The expenditure in 2020-21 and the forecasted expenditure for 2021-22 includes my decision to prioritise £12m and £17m respectively, to a road recovery fund, of which £10m and £15m was allocated specifically to benefit rural roads.
Expenditure will have been determined by budget availability and capacity in a given year.
Capital Structural Maintenance includes Carriageway and Footway resurfacing, Asphalt Patching, Surface Dressing, and Structural Drainage and Stability.
