Answer

The making of an Abandonment Order relieves the Department of its maintenance responsibilities and in such a circumstance, the owner of the ‘bed and soil’ regains control of the land. If the Department is also the owner of abandoned lands, officials will also then take forward disposal of the surplus land.

In relation to the Green Road in Conlig, based on the information currently available my Department owns a small portion of land within the area that will be subject to The Green Road, Conlig (Abandonment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2022. If this process is completed satisfactorily, this land will then be disposed of in line with government disposal procedures which can be viewed via the following link: Government Disposal Procedures.
