Answer
Following the suspension of the Essure device’s CE mark on 3 August 2017, the Department advised the Health and Social Care Trusts on 18th August 2017 to suspend use of the Essure device and quarantine any remaining inventory. This was by means of an email from the Northern Ireland Adverse Incident Centre to Trust medical device liaison officers. The manufacturer’s Field Corrective Action to their customers at this time requested a voluntary suspension of use of the product and to temporarily quarantine any unused inventory until further notice.
