Answer
The wearing of face coverings on all dedicated school buses and public transport is mandatory for all post-primary children, except for those who are exempt from wearing a face covering or have a reasonable excuse. The best available scientific evidence is that, when used correctly, wearing a face covering may reduce the spread of coronavirus droplets in certain circumstances, helping to protect others, these remain an important part of our defence against COVID-19. In order for the wearing of face coverings to be effective it is estimated that 70%-80% compliance is required.
The Executive are due to discuss the remaining COVID 19 regulations, including the legal requirement to wear a face covering in various settings, in more detail at their meeting on 10 February.
